Lemon Ginger Morning Detox Tea

By Dr. Karen West · August 2026

This daily anti-inflammatory wellness drink supports your immune system, stimulates digestion, and kick-starts your metabolism. Add it to your morning wake-up routine.

Why it works

  • Helps eliminate water retention
  • Supports your metabolism
  • Supports the body’s natural detox pathways
  • Immunity booster
  • Antioxidant-rich to fight inflammation

Lemon is a natural diuretic that stimulates the removal of unwanted water weight — on average we can carry as much as 11 extra pounds of water. Lemon supports immunity, skin, and digestive health, and is full of vitamin C and antioxidants that fight the free radicals contributing to inflammation and arthritic symptoms.

Ginger is a natural detoxifier that helps your liver flush unwanted toxins. It contains gingerol, a bioactive compound with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Ginger has been studied for weight management and can help balance blood insulin levels — and most notably, it aids digestion, easing gas and bloating.

Turmeric is full of antioxidants and helps prevent blood sugar spikes by improving insulin sensitivity.

Lemon Ginger Morning Detox Tea

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 inch ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 large lemon, juiced
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric (optional)

Instructions

Prep the ginger with a vegetable peeler to remove the outer skin, then thinly slice with a sharp knife. In a small pot or kettle, combine the water, ginger, lemon juice, and turmeric, and stir. Warm over medium-low heat until steaming. Let rest for a few minutes and enjoy.

Serves 1–2.

You can double or triple the recipe to prep a few mornings at once — it stays fresh in the fridge for up to 7 days. Reheat on the stove or in the kettle each morning.

Stay well!
